OK, so things have been crazy lately. I have been meaning to write on this more often and failing.

My birthday yesterday was good (thanks everyone for the messages!)... my cell phone broke down in the morning and refused to work anymore, so I ended up buying new phones for myself and Lori yesterday evening. We went out to a nice dinner and things were lovely.

Been getting excited for PAX... it is going to be extremely awesome this year, and in years to come. Especially if you read the cool news on the front page of penny-arcade.com (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2008/08/01/pax-east-coast-2010/)

Short update for now, longer one will come later.

This is just a rambling post for myself because I need to write more. :)

Today was a beautiful day.

This morning Lori and I ran some errands and I picked up some new shoes for myself as my last pair was a $20 cheap pair that had started falling apart. Then on the way home, Lori mentioned that our mixer was dead, so we swung by Linens N Things and gave ourselves a little splurge... We picked up a really nice new Cuisinart uber-mixer. I figured it was worth it considering all of the cake making Lori has been up to. :)

After that, I spent the afternoon cleaning up the garage, I got a ton of things done, but I still have a lot to go.

Then we spent the evening watching Dan in Real Life with some friends of ours, made some cake, and then went out to see Prince Caspian with another friend (It was decent, they had to skim a few things understandably... there was one thing that bothered me though... more on that later).

Keep in mind, through all this, I was breaking in my new shoes. My feet hurt now.

I was having a discussion with some friends about XHTML and CSS, and this conversation happened...

<GauntletWizard> Actually, I have nothing against XHTML
<GauntletWizard> Just CSS
<JediFreeman> why would you have something against CSS?
<maze> GauntletWizard: CSS is love.
<maze> embrace it.
<JediFreeman> let its love for you cascade down
<maze> JediFreeman: I see what you did there.
<JediFreeman> maze: thats because we have style
<maze> JediFreeman: killin' me here
<JediFreeman> maze: its ok, I have sheets upon sheets of material
<maze> JediFreeman: I hope your child will select to follow in your footsteps
<JediFreeman> and if they dont, I just import some more
...time passes...

It has been requested that Europe - The Final Countdown be played at some point before I leave work.

I think this is a must.

I have been thinking a lot about my habits and the things I do during the day, and more and more I see that I need a good reboot.

  • Clean out the fridge and pantry of things I do not really eat or should not really eat.
  • Clean up / organize my office space, eliminate things that get in the way or cause distractions, re-organize things to be more efficient.
  • think about my flow through the day. How do I get up in the mornings, what are my routines.

I am sure there will be more, but thats what I am thinking for now… comments? suggestions?

Its funny, even though I have been doing one programming job or another for several years (since high school really), I never really stayed in one place long. I would work for a year at my college, but be forced to take a break for summer since I was a student assistant. Or I would work at a contract for 6-8 months and finish it up and move on to something else. In September 2005 I started working for a pretty awesome company in Seattle, and it was good. I was getting paid more than any of my previous jobs, I was a full time employee, and things were good.

Over the two and a half years I have been there, I got married, bought a house, and many other things. It has been and still is an awesome company and a wonderful place to work.

Sometimes, however, life drops opportunities across your path that you just cannot pass up. Over the last few weeks I have been in discussion with a startup company in Seattle, and on Tuesday evening they made me a generous offer. The kind that you just cannot refuse.

My new career will be a Software Developer working on a project that spans Ruby on Rails and ASP.NET to achieve something fairly remarkable. My last day at here will be on the 19th. I feel that it is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Its kind of bittersweet though, knowing that I won’t be seeing the people that I have worked with (and gone to lunch with and played games with for the last two years) every day anymore.

Its going to be a fun ride!

Ok, so people ask me what I want for Christmas so I put together an Amazon.com wish list.

Yes I know there are a lot of things on there, but hey, its my wish list, I can wish for what I want! :-P

I am adding more stuff to there as I think of things, its also a kind of running list for me when I get stuff for myself too.

Just a reminder, Because of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the date for the end of Daylight Saving Time has been moved to the first Sunday in November.

We do NOT roll our clocks back on October 29. We will roll them back on November 4.

Just a heads up for folks.

Just a heads up for those that like getting signed books...

I found out that RA Salvatore "happened to be in the neighborhood" of the Federal Way Barnes and Noble a few days ago, so he stopped by and signed a whole bunch of his books on the shelves.

There are quite a few there, kind of a nice added bonus to open a store-bought book and find the author's signature. :)
31st-Aug-2007 08:08 am - Adventures in the house of the Jedi

At about 12:30am last night Lori and I heard a loud crash downstairs in our house. This seriously freaked us out, we were thinking "Is it robbers? Did an outside window break? Oh shit, lets make sure the cats are ok!" and things of that nature.

I went downstairs to go to check it out, and came into the kitchen to see a pile of broken glass and some heavy glass cookware lying on the ground. The cookware was intact and fine, the broken glass was the entire front of the oven.

From what I can tell, the cookware fell out of our cabinet or off of our counter (or the cats knocked it down) and it fell just right to smash into the front of the oven and completely destroy the glass door. The metal door behind is still intact, so I am hoping this will be a simple fix / replacement. The oven is less than a year old, so I will try to see if I can get it covered by warranty, but I doubt "acts of falling cookware" are covered.
